PUBLIC SERVICE LEAVE

 

 

The Sabine Parish School Board, cognizant of the personal and professional qualifications of its employees and the potential application of these personal and professional qualifications in the interest of community welfare and progress, do hereby provide policy guidance to govern the specified involvement.

 

  1. Referenced individuals, employees under the jurisdiction of this Board and therefore subject to this guidance, shall be public officials, duly elected by public referendum to a public office created by legal decree.
     

  2. The employee's hours absenced from the specific school system assignment will be accounted for in units of a whole day and/or one-half day basis and the regular daily salary of the individual involved will be reduced in like manner based on the above stated unit system and shall be classified as Public Service Leave and shall not adversely affect tenure or sabbatical leave status.
     

  3. The length of a school day varies from school to school within the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., five (5) school days constituting a school week and a school month consisting of four (4) school weeks, said elected official's involvement in his/her elected capacity, within the above defined school day, week or month and with respect to item two (2) above, shall not exceed 12 days per month.
     

  4. Extraordinary circumstances or situations arising from the responsibilities of the elected office, and in conflict with item three (3) above, shall be resolved by the Superintendent of Schools.
