The Parish School Board of Many, Louisiana, Sabine Parish, met in public session on February 12, 2018, at 6:00 p.m. at the regular meeting place of said Board, with the following members present:  Terrell D. Snelling, President, Daron Chandler, William D. Garcie, Dale Skinner, Dr. Leah Byles, Spencer Faust and Donald H. Remedies.

 

The meeting was called to order by President Terrell D. Snelling, the Invocation was offered, the Pledge of Allegiance was rendered and the President welcomed the visitors.

 

Absent:  James R. Martin, Vice-President, Roderick Davis

 

Recognition and Presentation of Sabine Soil and Water Conservation District State Poster Contest Winners was given by Chris Pearce, SWCD board member.

 

Recognition of Jacob Wilkerson and Baylee Slaughter, athletes from Negreet High School, was given by Sandra Cosio.

 

On motion by Daron Chandler and seconded by Spencer Faust, it was carried to approve the Consent Agenda as follows:

 

·        Approval and Adoption of January 22, 2018 Minutes, as Signed

 

·        Approval and Adoption of the Following Revised Policies (First Reading)

A.     File:  EE, Child Nutrition Program Management

B.     File:  IDCJ, Supplemental Educational Services

C.     File:  IDDH, English Learner Program

D.     File:  IFD, Parent and Family Engagement

E.     File:  IFDA, Parental Rights/Student Rights of Privacy

F.     File:  JR, Student Privacy and Education Records

 

On motion by Dr. Leah Byles and seconded by Daron Chandler, it was carried to leave the committees as the previous year, which is as follows:

 

A.     Finance – Terrell D. Snelling, Chairman and entire board

B.     Transportation – William D. Garcie, Chairman, Spencer Faust, Daron Chandler

C.     Food Service – James R. Martin, Chairman, Spencer Faust, Dr. Leah Byles

D.     Legislative Liaison – James R. Martin, Chairman, Roderick Davis, William D. Garcie

E.     Head Start – Roderick Davis, Chairman, Dale Skinner, Dr. Leah Byles

F.     Tax Commission – Donald H. Remedies, Chairman, Daron Chandler

 

On motion by William D. Garcie and seconded by Spencer Faust, it was carried to approve and adopt the Following Revised Policies (Second Reading)

 

A.     File:  DFN, Sale of Buildings and Land

B.     File:  ECA, Authorized Use of Equipment

C.     File:  GBC, Recruitment

D.     File:  FBRIB, Sick Leave

 

On motion by Daron Chandler and seconded by Dr. Leah Byles, it was carried to approve the 2017-2018 Sabine Parish Pupil Progression Plan.

 

On motion by Dr. Leah Byles and seconded by William D. Garcie, it was carried to approve the 2018-2019 School Calendar.

 

On motion by Dale Skinner and seconded by Donald H. Remedies, it was carried to approve Issuance of a One (1) Time, Non-recurring $1,000 Check to be Distributed on April 25, 2018, fully funded from the Sales Tax Fund.

 

On motion by Spencer Faust and seconded by Dale Skinner, it was carried to adopt a Resolution to support the thoughtful resolution provided by LSASPA, requesting all parties concerned with public education to unite behind the development of a Louisiana Task Force on Teacher Shortage to research strategies to overcome the challenge and secure a stronger educator workforce.

 

On motion by Daron Chandler and seconded by Donald H. Remedies, it was carried to enter into executive session to discuss the status and its defense strategies in the matter styled “Benny Bell Versus Sabine Parish School Board” bearing Case Number:  068723 on the records of the 11th Judicial District Court, Parish of Sabine, State of Louisiana.

 

On motion by Donald H. Remedies and seconded by Daron Chandler, it was carried to exit executive session.

 

There was no business under the Superintendent’s Report, informational only.

 

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
