The Parish School Board of Many, Louisiana, Sabine Parish, met in public session on October 9, 2017, at 6:00 p.m. at the regular meeting place of said Board, with the following members present:  Terrell D. Snelling, President, James R. Martin, Vice-President, Daron Chandler, Roderick Davis, William D. Garcie, Dale Skinner, Dr. Leah Byles, Spencer Faust and Donald H. Remedies.

 

The meeting was called to order by President Terrell D. Snelling, the Invocation was offered, the Pledge of Allegiance was rendered and the President welcomed the visitors.

 

Absent:  None

 

On motion by James R. Martin and seconded by Roderick Davis, it was carried to approve the Consent Agenda as follows:

 

·        Approval and Adoption of September 11, 2017, Minutes, as Signed.

·        Approval of the ESSA Consolidated Rollover Application 17/18.

·        Approval of the SRCL Year 2016 Remaining Funds Allocated for 2017-2018.

·        Approval of Out of State Field Trip for 50 Students and 6 Teachers from Negreet  High School to Dallas, Texas on December 8, 2017.

·        Approval of Northwestern State University Dual Enrollment Program Agreement with Sabine Parish School District 2017-2018.

·        Approval of the 2017-2018 Carl Perkins Career and Technical Education Grant.

·        Approval and Adoption of the Following Revised Policies (First Reading)

 

A.     File:  JS, Student Fees, Fines and Charges

B.     File:  JDA, Corporal Punishment

C.     File:  JGCD, Administration of Medication

 

The Legislative Policy Update Training was given by Attorney Robert Hammonds with Hammonds, Sills, Adkins and Guice.

 

On motion by Roderick Davis and seconded by James R. Martin, it was carried to approve the Memorandum of Understanding between Career Compass of Louisiana and Sabine Parish School System.

 

On motion by Daron Chandler and seconded by Roderick Davis, it was carried to enter into Executive Session to Discuss and Take Action, if Necessary, Regarding Sabine Parish Sales and Use Tax Commission Refund Request.

 

On motion by Roderick Davis and seconded by James R. Martin, it was carried to exit Executive Session.

 

The need for potential future tax elections was discussed.

 

The following notice was read aloud:

 

Notice is hereby given that at its meeting to be held on Monday, November 13, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. at the Parish School Board Office, 695 Peterson Street, Many, Louisiana, the Parish School Board of the Parish of Sabine, State of Louisiana, plans to consider adopting a resolution ordering and calling elections to be held in (i) Parish of Sabine, State of Louisiana to authorize the continuation of an ad valorem tax, (ii) Pleasant Hill School District No. 42 of Sabine Parish, Louisiana to authorize the continuation of an ad valorem tax, (iii) Zwolle School District No. 61 of Sabine Parish to authorize the issuance of general obligation bonds and (iv) Sales Tax District No. 2 of the Parish School Board of the Parish of Sabine, State of Louisiana, to authorize the renewal of a sales and use tax.

There was no business under the Superintendent’s Report, informational only.

 

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
