The Parish School Board of Many, Louisiana, Sabine Parish, met in public session on June 13, 2016, at 5:30 p.m. at the regular meeting place of said Board, with the following members present:  Terrell D. Snelling, President, James R. Martin, Vice-President, Spencer Faust, William D. Garcie, Daron Chandler and Donald H. Remedies.

 

The meeting was called to order by President Terrell D. Snelling, the Invocation was offered, the Pledge of Allegiance was rendered and the President welcomed the visitors.

Recognition of Sabine Award Winners was given by Sandra Cosio

Recognition of Schools that Participated in the American Heart Association’s “Jump Rope and Hoops for Heart” Programs was given by American Heart Association Representative Jill Lucero.

 

On motion by Donald H. Remedies and seconded by James R. Martin, it was carried to approve the Consent Agenda as follows:

On motion by William D. Garcie and seconded by Spencer Faust, it was carried to approve Out-of-State Travel for 3 students and 1 adult from Ebarb High School to attend the National 4-H Shooting Sports Competition in Grand Island, NE on June 25-July 3, 2016.  Monetary assistance requested.

 

On motion by James R. Martin and seconded by Donald H. Remedies, it was carried to approve the Sabine Index as the Official Journal for Sabine Parish School Board.

 

On motion by James R. Martin and seconded by Donald H. Remedies, it was carried to authorize the Board President or Superintendent to Sign Final Change Orders, Occupancy Agreements, and any other Necessary/Legal Documents for the Many Schools Construction Project.

 

On motion by James R. Martin and seconded by Daron Chandler, it was carried to approve the MOU with Rehabilitation Services of Northwest Louisiana.

 

On motion by James R. Martin and seconded by Daron Chandler, it was carried to Notify Local Governmental Authorities to Submit Proposals for the Use of the Current Central Office of the Sabine Parish School Board Pursuant to Board Policy DFN.

 

On motion by Donald H. Remedies and seconded by Daron Chandler, it was carried to Amend on First Reading Policy BC:  SCHOOL BOARD MEETINGS.  The only change to this policy is that it shall set the regular meeting time at 6:00 PM rather than 5:30 PM.

 

Presentation of the Annual Operating Budget of the Sabine Parish School Board for the Period July 1, 2016 through June 30, 2017, was given by Rodney Wilson, Director of Business Services.

 

On motion by James R. Martin and seconded by Donald H. Remedies, it was carried to authorize the Administration to Publish the General and Special Revenue Fund Budgets for 2016-2017.

 

Announcement of Public Hearing was read by Rodney Wilson, Director of Business Services, as follows:

 

·        The Sabine Parish School Board will hold a public hearing and subsequent meeting to adopt the 2016-2017 General and Special Revenue Fund Budgets at 695 Peterson Street in Many, LA on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at 5:45 p.m.

 

·        The proposed 2016-2017 budget for the Sabine Parish School Board is available for public inspection at the Sabine Parish School Board office, 695 Peterson Street, Many, LA.  Budget details can be examined at the School Board Office between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

On motion by Daron Chandler and seconded by James R. Martin, it was carried to authorize and announce a Special Called Board Meeting to be held on June 30, 2016 at 6:00 PM.

 

On motion by Daron Chandler and seconded by Spencer Faust, it was carried to authorize and announce a Special Called Board Meeting to be held on August 1, 2016 at 6:00 PM.

 

Notice for Public Hearing was read by Terrell D. Snelling, President, as follows:

 

·        Notice is hereby given pursuant to Article 7, Section 23© of the Louisiana Constitution and R.S. 47:1705(B) that a public hearing of the Sabine Parish School Board in Sabine Parish will be held at its regular meeting place in the board room of the Sabine Parish School Board, located at 695 Peterson Street, Many, LA on Monday, August 1, 2016 at 5:45 p.m. to consider levying additional or increased millage rates without further voter approval or adopting the adjusted millage rates after reassessment and rolling forward to rates not to exceed the prior year’s maximum.  The estimated amount of tax revenues to be collected in the next year from the increased millage is $2,923,885, and the amount of increase in taxes attributable to the millage increase is $221,246.

·        Notice is hereby given that there will be a public meeting of the Sabine Parish School Board in Sabine Parish and the meeting will be held at its regular meeting place in the board room of the Sabine Parish School Board, located at 695 Peterson Street, Many, LA on Monday, August 1, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. and at this meeting the Sabine Parish School Board intends to levy/adopt new, continued, renewed and/or increased ad valorem property tax millage rates for 2016.

 

On motion by William D. Garcie and seconded by James R. Martin, it was carried to dispose of the Ebarb High School Activity Bus due to no bids received.

 

There was no business under the Superintendent’s Report, informational only.

 

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
