The Parish School Board of Many, Louisiana, Sabine Parish, met in public session on May 4, 2015, at 5:30 p.m. at the regular meeting place of said Board, with the following members present:  J.A. “Buddy” Veuleman, President, Terrell D. Snelling, Vice-President, Roderick Davis, Spencer Faust, William D. Garcie, Daron Chandler, Dale Skinner, and James R. Martin.

 

The meeting was called to order by President Veuleman, the Invocation was offered, the Pledge of Allegiance was rendered and the President welcomed the visitors.

2015 School Level Outstanding School Support Employees were recognized by principals and Shane Wright

 

On motion by Roderick Davis and seconded by James R. Martin, it was carried to approve the Consent Agenda as follows:

 

·         Approval and Adoption of April 13, 2015, Minutes, as Signed

 

·         Approval for Requests for Out-of-State Field Trips:

      A.    Negreet High School Yearbook Staff – Galveston, Texas on May 26 – 28, 2015

      B.    Florien High School 4-H Reward Trip – Dallas, Texas on May 24 – 25, 2015

Millage details were explained to the Board with the Resolution being read in full by Rodney Wilson, Director of Business Services.

 

A Public Comment period was given.

 

On motion by Terrell Snelling and seconded by Daron Chandler, the following Resolution was adopted by a roll call vote.

            BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the proper administrative officials of the Parish of Sabine, State of Louisiana, be and they are hereby empowered, authorized, and directed to spread said taxes, as hereinabove set forth, upon the assessment roll of said Parish for the year 2015, and to make the collection of the taxes imposed for and on behalf of the taxing authority, according to law, and that the taxes herein levied shall become a permanent lien and privilege on all property subject to taxation as herein set forth, and collection thereof shall be enforceable in the manner provided by law.

            The foregoing resolution was read in full, the roll was called on the adoption thereof, and the resolution was adopted by the following votes:

Update of Jump Start Information was given by Melissa Lee, Director of Technology and Data and Kristy Brumley, Secondary Education Supervisor.

 

On motion by William D. Garcie and seconded by Dale Skinner, it was carried to approve Out-of-State Travel for 16 students and 21 adults from Ebarb High School to attend the FCCLA National Leadership Conference in Washington D.C. on July 4 – July 10, 2015.  Monetary assistance approved for the 16 students and 1 teacher.

 

On motion by Dale Skinner and seconded by Roderick Davis, it was carried to declare Surplus Supplies and Equipment as Listed Below and Authorize Disposal Practices to Occur:

 

·         Approximately 2,175 various curriculum textbooks, kits, sets, or binders presently in the warehouse that are no longer used in an actively taught curriculum.

 

A motion was made to approve the Agreement between Many Healthcare North and Sabine Parish School Board to help evacuate residents from the nursing home in the event of an evacuation, as presented with language added concerning reimbursement of expenses incurred.

 

The motion died for a lack of a second.

 

On motion by Daron Chandler and seconded by James R. Martin, it was carried to approve the Agreement between Many Healthcare North and Sabine Parish School Board to help evacuate residents from the nursing home in the event of an evacuation, as presented.

 

On motion by Roderick Davis and seconded by Spencer Faust, it was carried to approve the Memorandum of Understanding between Sabine Parish School Board and Northwest Louisiana Technical College regarding the use of one of our school buses for field trips.

 

On motion by Donald H. Remedies and seconded by Dale Skinner, it was carried to approve the Special Services Facilitator Job Description.

 

On motion by Roderick Davis and seconded by Dale Skinnier, it was carried to approve and adopt the following Resolution:

 

RESOLUTION

 

Whereas, the Sabine Parish School Board has been informed of the option to withdraw a

certain amount of said funds invested in the State Treasury pursuant to authority of La. R.S.

39.99 (Act 161 of the 2002 First Extraordinary Session of the Legislature) and our investment

agreement;

 

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Sabine Parish School Board does request

the execution of the amendment to investment agreement with the State Treasury pursuant to La.

R.S. 39.99; and

 

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVEDthat the Sabine Parish School Board does request

the withdrawal of funds from the State Treasury in the amount of $88,772.00 to be used as

specified in our recently approved EEF plan for Tobacco Settlement Funds.

 

On motion by Roderick Davis and seconded by Dale Skinner, it was carried to authorize the Superintendent to Sign an Amendment to the Investment Agreement and Request withdrawal in the amount of $88,772 from its Education Excellence Treasury Investment Account.

 

There was no business under the Superintendent’s Report, informational only.
