The Parish School Board of Many, Louisiana, Sabine Parish, met in public session on March 10, 2014, at 6:30 p.m. at the regular meeting place of said Board, with the following members present: James R. Martin, President, Terrell D. Snelling, Vice-President, Roderick Davis, Spencer Faust, William D. Garcie, Imon Jones, Donald Remedies, Dale Skinner, and J.A. “Buddy” Veuleman.
The meeting was called to order by President Martin, the Invocation was offered, the Pledge of Allegiance was rendered and the President welcomed the visitors.
School and District 2014 Students of the Year were recognized and presented awards by Sandra Cosio, Director of Student Services, Shelly Rivers, Coordinator of Student Services and Dr. Sara Ebarb, Superintendent and are as follows:
Emma McElwee, Many Junior High School, 5th Grade
Morgan Manuel, Florien High School, 8th Grade
Abby Hinds, Many High School, 12th Grade
Student of the Year for Each School
The Board was presented an overview of current grant awards by Debra Lee, Director of Federal Programs.
On motion by Roderick Davis and seconded by J.A. “Buddy” Veuleman, it was carried to approve the calendar as presented.
On motion by J.A. “Buddy” Veuleman and seconded by Imon Jones, it was carried to approve
the Consent Agenda as follows:
A. Ebarb High School – 20 Pre-K students and 25 adults, including Teacher Jackie Remedies and Paraprofessional Susie Sepulvado, to Ellen Trout Zoo, Lufkin, Texas on May 12, 2014, on a school bus.
On motion by Roderick Davis and seconded by J.A. “Buddy” Veuleman, it was carried to adopt the Resolution for the Adoption and Support of the 2014 LSBA Legislative Framework.
The Notice of Public Meeting was read aloud by Rodney Wilson as follows:
I. Notice is hereby given that the Parish School Board of the Parish of Sabine, State of Louisiana (the “School Board”), plans to consider a resolution ordering and calling elections to be held within (i) Converse School District No. 8A of Sabine Parish, Louisiana, (ii) Ebarb School District No. 17 of Sabine Parish, Louisiana, (iii) South Sabine Consolidated School District No. 20 of Sabine Parish, Louisiana and (iv) Negreet School District No. 62A of Sabine Parish, Louisiana, to authorize the levy of ad valorem taxes within said Districts at the School Board meeting on Monday, April 14, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. at the Parish School Board Office, 695 Peterson Street, Many, Louisiana.
On motion by William D. Garcie and seconded by J.A. “Buddy” Veuleman , it was carried to advertise to receive propane bids for Ebarb and Negreet High Schools for the 2014-2015 fiscal year and refurbished computer bids for the 2014-2015 fiscal year.
On motion by Roderick Davis and seconded by Imon Jones, it was carried to advise the administration to issue a Request for Proposals for Fiscal Agent for the 2014-2015 Year.
Financial information was provided to the Board regarding the current expenditures, revenues, and contract status regarding Neighborhood Place.
On motion by J.A. “Buddy” Veuleman and seconded by Terrell D. Snelling, it was carried to allow the current contract to terminate June 30, 2014, as stated in the current Cooperative Endeavor Agreement.
On motion by J.A. “Buddy” Veuleman and seconded by Terrell D. Snelling, it was carried to enter into Executive Session.
On motion by Roderick Davis and seconded by J.A. “Buddy” Veuleman, it was carried to exit Executive Session and reconvene Regular Session.
On motion by J.A. “Buddy” Veuleman and seconded by Roderick Davis, it was carried to authorize the Board President to sign the Consent Decree and Order as presented.
Under the Superintendent’s Report, Sara Ebarb, Superintendent, recognized Melyssa Snelling, Director of Preschool Programs for being awarded the Act 3 Pilot Grant. Dr. Ebarb also recognized Food Service, PALS, and preschool programs for receiving positive results on their recent audits.
It was recognized that Florien is playing in the state semi-finals on Wednesday, March 12, 2014, and again Friday, March 14, 2014, if they win the semi-final game.
The Superintendent’s Personnel Report is Included in the board packet.
Mr. Remedies was thanked for attending the mediation on March 5, 2014.
Rodney Wilson advised the Board of a Pre-Bid Meeting for the construction of the new Many Elementary School to occur on March 31, 2014, in the Board Room.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
