January 17, 2012
The Parish School Board of Sabine Parish, Louisiana, met in public session on January 17, 2012, at 6:30 P. M. at the regular meeting place of said Board, in the Title I Meeting Room at the Sabine Parish School Board Office at 695 Peterson Street, in Many, LA. The following members were present: J. A. “Buddy” Veuleman, President, Terrell D. Snelling, Vice-President, Roderick Davis, Spencer Faust, William D. Garcie, Imon Jones, Donald H. Remedies, J.R. Martin, and Dale Skinner.
The meeting was called to order by President Veuleman, the Invocation was offered, and the Pledge of Allegiance was rendered.
On motion by Roderick Davis and seconded by Terrell Snelling, it was carried to remove item VII A. 1, from the Consent Agenda.
There were the following presentation of Awards for School and District Students of the Year were presented by Cara Leggett, Supervisor of Administrative Services:
A. Makenna McElwee, Grade 5, Many Junior High School
B. Caitlyn Corley, Grade 8, Florien High School
C. Autumn Garner, Grade 12, Pleasant Hill High School
D. Students of the Year for Each School
Presentation of Awards to Schools for Louisiana State School Performance Honor Roll - 2010-2011, were presented by Debra Lee, Director of Federal Programs & Curriculum:
A. Florien High School
B. Negreet High School
C. Many High School
D. Many Elementary School
E. Ebarb High School
A presentation was made by Brent Ballard, of the General Purpose Financial Statements and Independent Auditor Reports as of June 30, 2011, and the Year Then Ended . Informal, no action taken.
On motion by Roderick Davis and seconded by William D. Garcie it was carried to approve the Consent Agenda, as amended:

B. MHS Band to travel to San Antonio, TX on May 18-20, 2012, for Band Contest – Expenses paid by MHS Band
Approval of Awarding the Following Vendors with the School Food Service
Spring Bids – February 1, 2012 – July 31, 2012
1) PAPER AND CLEANING
Bid is awarded to SAYES of Alexandria, LA
2) FOOD – including Canned Meat, and Frozen Foods, the only vendor who bid with the Sabine Parish School Food Service is SYSCO of EAST TEXAS

On motion by Spencer Faust and seconded by J. R. Martin, it was carried to approve that Many High School’s FFA send 4 students and their advisor to Tulsa, OK Welding School on February 24-26, 2012, where the students will be participating in a Senior Level Welding Competition. Monetary assistance was also approved.
On motion by William D. Garcie and seconded by J. R. Martin, it was carried to approve for adoption the revised School Board Policies:
A. File: DKA, School Fundraising
B. File: II, Testing Program
The Superintendent’s Report was information only, no action was taken.
On motion by William D. Garcie and seconded by Imon Jones, it was carried to agree to an Expulsion Appeal for Student with SID #7089919, and Student with SID # 8080047. The Parents were informed that the Hearing could be either in open or closed session, and they chose closed session.
On motion by Terrell Snelling and seconded by Donald Remedies, it was carried to go into executive session as authorized by LRS 42:6.1(A) to discuss Expulsion Appeals.
On motion by Dale Skinner and seconded by J. R. Martin, it was carried to reconvene.
On motion by Dale Skinner and seconded by J. R. Martin, it was carried to uphold the Superintendent’s recommendation for expulsion of the students.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
