The Sabine Parish School Board of Sabine Parish, Louisiana, met in public session on April 19, 2010, at 6:30 P. M. at the regular meeting place of said Board with the following members present: Imon Jones, President, Denyse Williams, Vice-President, Roderick Davis, James W. House, Jack Sanders, Donnie F. Sistrunk, Sr., Harold Stewart, J. A. “Buddy” Veuleman, and J. Randall Veuleman.
Absent: None
The meeting was called to order by the President, the Invocation was offered and the Pledge of Allegiance was rendered.
Ms. Julia Campbell, Assistant Extension 4-H Agent, introduced Mr. Kyle Chandler, Sabine Parish Extension Agent for 4-H Youth Development, Agriculture & Natural Resources. Also, Julie Barrios, student at CHS, shared some of her 4-H experiences.
On motion by J. A. “Buddy” Veuleman and seconded by Harold Stewart, it was carried to approve the Consent Agenda as follows:
Approval of April 5, 2010, Minutes, as Signed
Approval of Head Start Continuation Grant FY 2010-2011
Approval of Head Start Expansion Grant FY 2010-2011
Approval of Contract for In-house Training on May 20-22, 2010, with Randy Frost (Funding is provided through AARA funds.)
Approval of Out-of State Travel for the Following:
Negreet Pre-K (33 students, 4 teachers) to observe zoo animals at Ellen Trout Zoo in Lufkin, TX on May 10, 2010
Pleasant Hill High School’s 12th grade class (8 students, 4 chaperones) to travel to Galveston, TX, to visit Moody Gardens on May 6-9
Pleasant Hill High School, Grade 4 (28 students, 10 chaperones) to travel to Tyler, TX, on May 12, 2010, to visit Caldwell Zoo
School Within A School students and chaperones will attend Houston Astros vs. San Diego Padres game in Houston, TX, on May 8, 2010
The Board was polled and approved an out-of-state academic trip for 6-8 grade students at PHHS on April 18-20, 2010, to Houston, TX (approximately 35 students and 6 chaperones.) Trip was funded by LA GEAR UP. Those who could be reached and voting were: James House, J. Randall Veuleman, Jack Sanders, Harold Stewart, and Denyse Williams. Approved by majority of the Board.

On motion by James House and seconded by J. A. “Buddy” Veuleman, it was carried to award the bid to the highest bidder on a 205 Massey Ferguson Tractor - 1960 Model (Min. Bid $500) and a Land Pride Finish Mower, 48” cut. Five bids were received as follows:

The bid was awarded to the highest bidder - Gabriel Stewart. Harold Stewart abstained.
On motion by J. A. “Buddy” Veuleman and seconded by Jack Sanders, it was carried to allow Negreet High School to obtain a Visa Card from Peoples State Bank with the stipulation that there is no annual fee.
On motion by Denyse Williams and seconded by Donnie Sistrunk, Sr., it was carried to approval of Out-of-State Travel and Monetary Assistance in the customary amount of $200.00 each:
Sam Lee, student at Negreet High School and FCCLA Vice-President of Parliamentary Law to participate in the National Convention in Chicago, Il, in July, 2010, where he will be representing Negreet High School, Sabine Parish, and the State of LA
Jacob Heard, Trey Guccione, and Ken Underwood, members of Many High School FBLA, will compete at the FBLA National Leadership Conference in Nashville, TN, July 12-18, 2010, Ms.Sandra Heard (teacher) will chaperone them. Team placed second in the state in Banking and Financial Systems and will be representing their school, parish and state.
On motion by J. Randall Veuleman and seconded by James House, it was carried to approve the adoption of the 2010-2011 School Calendar as presented.
On motion by Jack Sanders and seconded by Harold Stewart, it was carried to authorize the Louisiana State Mineral and Energy Board and the Office of Mineral Resources to accept nominations and advertise for oil and gas mineral leases, accept minimum bids of $8,000 an acre and 25% royalty, and award oil and gas mineral leases on behalf of the Sabine Parish School Board, in the manner prescribed by law.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
