The Sabine Parish School Board of Sabine Parish, Louisiana, met in public session on March 22, 2010,at 6:30 P.. M. at the regular meeting place of said Board with the following members present:  Imon Jones, President, Denyse A. Williams, Vice-President, Roderick Davis, James W. House, Jack Sanders, Donnie F. Sistrunk, Sr., Harold Stewart, J. A. “Buddy” Veuleman, and J. Randall Veuleman.   

 

Absent:  None

 

The Invocation and Pledge of Allegiance were rendered.

 

Ms. Sharon DeWitt, Director of Administrative Services, presented each Parish Student of the Year winner a plaque:

 

McCayla Miller               Grade 5 Florien High School

Sarah Heard                  Grade 8 Many Junior High School

Julie Barrios                  Grade 12 Converse High School

 

Each winner was presented with a $50.00 Saving Bond as follows:

 

Daniel Bennett of Peoples State Bank, presented to McCayla Miller

J. Randall (Randy) Veuleman of Sabine Stated Bank, presented to Sarah Heard

Sharon DeWitt on behalf of John Godfrey of City Bank, presented to Julie Barrios

 

On motion by Roderick Davis and seconded by Donnie Sistrunk, it was carried to approve the Consent Agenda, as follows:

 

 

A.  Employment

          1.  Veronica Williams, Preschool Secretary, Many Site, effective March 22, 2010

 

B.  Letter Informing Board of “Out-of-Parish Job Acceptance”

          1.   Cade Brumley, Converse High School Principal, effective June 1, 2010

 

On motion by Jack Sanders and seconded by J. A. “Buddy” Veuleman, it was carried to authorize funding up to $100,000.00 for the 2010 Summer School.

 

On motion by Donnie F. Sistrunk, Sr. and seconded by J. Randall Veuleman, it was carried to grant out-of-state travel and monetary assistance in the amount of $200.00 for Julie Barrios, student at Converse High School, to attend the National Youth Science Camp in Charleston, West VA, June 29-July 23, 2010.  She is one of two delegates to attend from the State of LA.

 

On motion by Harold Stewart and seconded by Jack Sanders, it was carried to grant out-of- state travel and monetary assistance in the amount of $200.00 each for 17 FCCLA students and one (1)  Sponsor at Ebarb High School to attend the National Leadership Conference in Chicago, IL, on July 2-8, 2010. 

 

This group placed 1st in seven out of eight contests at the State Conference and will be representing Ebarb High School, Sabine Parish and the State of LA at the National level.

 

Superintendent Jackson discussed doing a study concerning a 12-month school-year.  Informational only, no action was taken.

 

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
